About this event

βœ¨πŸ“š Creatures of Whim: Fantasy Book Club Night πŸ“šβœ¨

Love fantasy worlds, lore, or swoon-worthy romance? Join our Lexington book club for crafts, treats, and new friends. No reading required!

We love getting lost in fictional worlds. Give us magic, mystical creatures, witches, all of it. We also unashamedly love a little spice. So, we figured, why choose?

Our World-Building & Romantasy Book Club is for people who love fantasy, whether you're here for the intricate world-building, the slow-burn romance, or a little bit of both. You don't have to love romantasy to join us, and you certainly don't have to defend your reading preferences.

Join the Traveling Book Woman of Magpie Collective Lexington and Creatures of Whim at doodles breakfast & lunch for an evening of books, crafts, treats, and conversation with other fantasy readers in Lexington.

What are we reading?

Our October read is An Ancient Witch's Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward.

Grace usually kicks things off with a summary of the book, and anyone who's read it is welcome to jump in with details they think are worth sharing. From there, we get into discussion questions that often go beyond the book itself. For example, one of our questions for For Whom the Belle Tolls was, "What would your paradise look like? Who would be there?" You don't need to have read the book to have an answer! We'll also swap reading recommendations and reveal November's selection at the end of the evening.

And yes, you can come even if you haven't read the book! We know life gets busy. You can come having read the entire thing, half of it, or absolutely none of it. We want this to be an opportunity to connect with other readers in our community, discover new books, and enjoy an evening out.

And, of course, we'll have a craft! We like having something to do with our hands while we chat. It can take some of the pressure off making conversation, and we get to leave with something we made. You don't have to be particularly crafty, either. We're much more interested in having a good time than making something perfect.

Come by yourself or bring a friend. We're always happy to have new people join us!

Choose your book club experience:

πŸ“– $30 β€” Book + Experience

Includes a copy of November's book to take home, book club discussion and activities, treats, and crafts.

✨ $20 β€” Experience Only

Includes everything above except the take-home book. Perfect if you prefer ebooks or audiobooks, borrow from the library, or just want to join us for the evening.

Questions?

We hope you'll join us for a little world-building, a little romance, and a lot of book talk.

FAQ:

Do I have to read anything beforehand?

Nope! Grace starts each meeting with a summary of the book, and our discussion questions are designed so that everyone can contribute, whether they've read every page or haven't even opened it. Of course, if you have read it, we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Can I come alone?

Absolutely! We love when people come on their own. We know walking into a room full of strangers can feel uncomfortable, so we have guided discussions and activities throughout the evening. You won't have to figure out how to join an existing conversation. We've got that covered!

Do I have to participate in the discussion?

We ask that everyone come willing to participate, whether that's answering a question, asking one of your own, or building on what someone else shares. You never have to answer every question or share anything personal. Contribute in whatever way feels comfortable for you!
